Garbage collection is a
process of Active Directory. This process starts by removing the remains of
previously deleted objects from the database. These objects are known as
tombstones. Then, the garbage collection process deletes unnecessary log files.
And the process starts a defragmentation thread to claim additional free space.
The garbage collection process is running on all the domain controllers in an
interval of 12 hours.
